AI in the Making: Intel Labs’ Cognitive AI Research
At the 2024 AI Hardware & Edge AI Summit in San Jose, California, I had the opportunity to sit down with Vasudev Lal, Principal AI Research Scientist, Cognitive AI at Intel Labs. He gave me a tour of the happenings at Intel Labs, specifically in the field of Cognitive AI.
Current Projects and Research
Lal discussed several key projects that the Intel Cognitive AI team is currently working on. One of the main focuses of the team is advancing with Intel Gaudi AI accelerators. He also highlighted his recent collaboration with Andrew Ng at DeepLearning.ai on a new developer training course for multimodal models.
Challenges in Developing Multimodal Models
Lal also spoke about the biggest challenges his team faces when developing and training multimodal models. He mentioned that one of the main challenges is training and deploying these models on the Intel Tiber Developer Cloud.
Multimodal Models and AI Accelerators
To better understand the intersection of multimodal models and AI accelerators, I asked Lal to elaborate on the role of Gaudi AI accelerators in the team’s research. He explained that Gaudi AI accelerators are designed to accelerate the training and deployment of AI models, particularly those that require high-performance computing and large-scale data processing.
Conclusion
In conclusion, Intel Labs’ Cognitive AI team is pushing the boundaries of AI research, working on innovative projects, and collaborating with industry leaders to advance the field. As AI continues to shape our world, it’s exciting to see the progress being made by researchers like Vasudev Lal and his team.
