Introduction to Perplexity and Chrome

Perplexity, an AI company, has been making waves in the tech industry. Recently, its executive, Shevelenko, was asked about Chrome, a browser that the DOJ wants Google to sell. Shevelenko confirmed that Perplexity would be interested in buying Chrome from Google, just like an OpenAI executive said earlier.

Motorola’s AI Features

Motorola has announced its 2025 Razr devices, which come with a range of AI features. The company has partnered with several AI providers, including Gemini, Copilot, Meta, and Perplexity. Gemini is the default assistant app, but other firms have integrated their AI technology into different parts of the software.

Perplexity on Motorola Phones

Perplexity’s app will be preloaded on the new Razr devices, and owners will get three free months of Perplexity Pro. This is the first time Perplexity has had a smartphone distribution deal. Although it’s not the default assistant, Perplexity is integrated into the Moto AI platform. The new Razrs will suggest using Perplexity for AI searches when accessing certain features like the calendar or browsing the web.

Other AI Providers on Motorola Phones

Moto AI also features elements powered by other AI systems. For example, Microsoft Copilot will appear in Moto AI with an "Ask Copilot" option. Meta’s Llama model powers a Moto AI feature called Catch Me Up, which summarizes notifications from select apps. It’s unclear why Motorola chose to partner with four different AI providers, but it’s likely due to the companies’ desire to increase their market share.

The Partnership Between Motorola and Perplexity

Perplexity confirmed that no money changed hands in this deal. Instead, the company is partnering with Motorola to acquire more users. However, with Gemini getting priority placement, it may be challenging for Perplexity to gain traction.

Conclusion

In conclusion, Perplexity is expanding its reach by partnering with Motorola to integrate its AI technology into the company’s 2025 Razr devices. Although it’s not the default assistant, Perplexity is still a significant part of the Moto AI platform. As the AI industry continues to evolve, it will be interesting to see how Perplexity and other AI providers compete for market share.
